It seems like most new products have a patent, and this is understandable since someone came up with the idea and should be rewarded for their efforts. However, I am not sure how to actually go about doing this for myself. Is it difficult, or is the process easy enough that I should be able to follow the directions on my own without hiring a lawyer? I am tempted to use a lawyer just to make it easier and to have more time to work on my invention since I will then need to spend less time protecting the idea itself.
